Allen Sports Downtown folding bike from Allen Sports is an entry level bike. The company is popular for producing folding bikes for several years now. The company wasn’t a small brand until 2013. However, since they have released a good range of bikes, the brand has become very popular. Allen Sports Downtown Aluminum is the cheapest model of folding bike from the company. However, even then this aluminium framed entry level bike isn’t something that cannot be considered if you wish to purchase a folding bike.
Performance & Reviews
There are several good things about this bike. To begin with, unfolding the bike is pretty swift and all one needs to do is tap on the locking tab that secures the wheels gently and then swing the handlebar to the upright position, lock it in place and then finally open the frame swing out of the front wheel to open the frame. The hinge levels on this bike are awesome as you don’t even need to press them and they will fit in their place easily. This is something different about this bike as on most of the folding bikes, one need to use lots of pressure in order to secure the wheels and snap hinge levers.
Folding this bike is very easy and the locking tab that is used to secure the wheels is really good. However, it is a bit bulky and a strap might be required to fix the handlebar post and the wheels. However, the locking mechanism stands out when compared to the mechanisms of various other folding bikes. Unfolding and folding the bike respectively won’t take more than 15 seconds.
When it comes to the experience on riding, this single speed bike is great for flat roads and doesn’t need too much maintenance as required on the other single speed bikes. The single speed is enough for riding around the city smoothly. The bike is ready to use and you won’t need the assistance of a professional to set it up. The bike is compact and can fit in the car trunk very easily.
As this is one of the cheapest bikes produced by Allen Sports, it has a few low end specifications that were used to reduce the cost. It is heavier compared to the other bikes in the series produced from the company. It also doesn’t have the 451 mm wheels unlike that other bikes from this make, that really help in providing a comfortable ride. However, the components used in the bike are not cheap and you are not going to face any issues. The frame is very strong. And the locking mechanism won’t become loose even after using it regularly.
