I am looking for info re bicycles for the heavier person – one’s that fold up , are sturdy and transportable .?
I am travelling overseas so want to put this on an aircraft then unfold it at the other end (africa) and get out and about over what will probably relatively unmade terrain. Equally it needs to be light (to carry)so that I don’t lose it over there! I weigh nigh on 300 pounds so want a bicycle that won’t let me down. I don’t seem to be able to find this sort of info for bikes which is a shame as I’m keen to get fitter and out and about without the backache that accompanies the walking – I’m sure there are those of you who know what I am talking about.
A well made bike will be able to hold your weight. Here are a couple manufacturers of folding bikes that have built a strong reputation with heavier riders:

Dahon Speed Uno Folding Bike (Shadow) $381.65 we designed the Speed Uno, a single-speed with no brakes to fuss with, no cables to adjust, and a backpedal brake that whispers to you to try a power slide.
