Bicycle Advice Sought!?
I’m trying to decide which folding bike to get. My criteria are:
- 26″ Wheels (or similar)
- Doesn’t have to be ultraportable, it’s for slinging in the back of my landie not carrying on the tube
- Not too expensive, as I think it will only be for occasional use – I’m thinking about £200 tops
- Probably mainly for on-road use but might use it off-road sometimes
The one I’d really like to get is this one:

This one seems to fit the bill, but it looks a little ‘clunky’:

My Discovery II has a trailer hitch.. If your Landie has one, you can put one of these on the back: http://www.roofracks.co.uk/main/cycleracks_rear2-3.htm
They have strap-retained and spare-wheel-mounted ones too in case your Landie doesn’t have a hitch.
And that way, you can transport any standard bicycle on your Land Rover easily– No need to buy a collapsible one. A standard bike would be sturdier than a collapsible one and probably a touch lighter too.
I’ve traveled extensively in my Disco with my mountain bike strapped onto the hitch.
