I have never seen a basket like you describe, but I have seen wicker baskets with a lid, which is lockable. And I have seen bikes with a rack on the front on which you can place any crate that is not too big. And of course, there are crates with lockable lids too.

Both kinds of baskets/crates with rack should be available from any good bike shop. As most countries do not have many good bike shops, you might need to search online to find the bike shops in your town/area.
The only link I have is from a guy working in the Netherlands who is making baskets to order and is also selling racks. Just to be complete I will add him to sources. But I am sure you can find something suitable in most countries in the world.

But I would not leave a boombox in a bike basket, even when the bike is locked to something and the basket is locked to the bike, as all locks can be easily broken.
And bikes, even when locked to a rail or post, have a tendency to fall, rattling your boombox in its basket/crate.
And I do not know about your weather, but here you are sure to get a downpour when you do not expect it, drenching your boombox if there is only a basket to ‘protect’ it.

And on a personal note, I do not think that riding around forcing your music to other people is the right thing to do. Better bring a personal player with earplugs, you enjoy your music and the people around you are not forced to suffer from your choice.

Hm. I recall the name. They didn’t stick around too long, perhaps 5 or 6 years before they folded… not the bike, the company.

I don’t know how craigslist works, but a typical midlevel folding bike these days costs about $400 new and they can be had pretty readily used for under $200. My guess, since the bike has been forced to obsolescence by the closing of the company is that the bike might be worth $40 or so. Maybe you could post it for $100 and take offers.

I expect the biggest reason is the lack of interest in cycling by the majority of the U.S. population. Very few seem to believe the cyclists should be on the roads. Quite a change from my days of youth where there was a boom in cycling for all ages (mid 70′s).
Where there is little market, there is little interest to develop products for same. With recreational cycling at such a low point (compared to other nations on this earth), commuting on a bicycle is even less of interest to most Americans. And if there is little interest in commuting by bike, why would a company invest in manufacturing, marketing, sales, etc for same?
As for electric bikes, it’s just a fall out of the same thing. This day in age we have motor powered scooters, but little interest in bikes of any kind.
Yeah, I realize there is an upswing in interest in cycling, but until it hits a critical mass, I don’t expect much in the way of lower end product development.
