Should I buy the Swissbike/Paratrooper X5 or the Dahon Jack?
I wanted a folding mountain bike but don’t know whether to spend the extra money for a swissbike or paratrooper x5, should I? IS there much performing difference between them? Thanks.
I would definitely go for the X5 Paratrooper, or one of the Swissbike models. The way they fold is really neat and much stronger than the Dahons where the frame has to break.

I mean, I’m used to do my routine -around 10 miles- in my hybrid bike with 26″ tires, and everything seems to be fine, but the other day I picked for the same distance a folding 16″ bike, and even though it was lot of fun the perspective and the response of the bike, I got my destiny sweating!
Is it normal this pronounced difference between both bikes or I did the wrong shifting or I am getting old!
Thanx!
There are folding bikes that perform well, but they are very expensive. An average inexpensive folding bike is only meant for short distances, they are heavy, the frames are flexy, and the usually have poor quality wheels. A really good folding bike like a Moulton could be used for anything a full sized bike can do.

How is a Dahon Speed D7 folding bike compared to a regular bike in riding distance?
I have a Dahon Speed D7 and I love it. I used to have a Dahon Boardwalk S1 but needed to get some gears due to my hilly environment.
Anyway, it should be fine for day to day commutes. I wouldn’t recomend it for any Century rides, but casual touring should be fine. A plus is that you can always fold it up and catch a ride back home. If given a choice though, I would much rather take my Rockhopper on longer distances than my Dahon , but the little thing is so convenient.

i have a few needs -
1. fold-able (i live in an apartment on the 20th floor and they don’tt like people taking up space on the elevator)
2. pedal brake (im from florida and just moved to the city. i was never taught gears and i am not coordinated enough to manage hand brakes)
3. appearance (the last and least important part. idon’t't want a funky looking bike. i like the appearance of the dahon ‘jack’. classic and lightweight but not too mountain-bike-y. haha.)
If you can’t manage brakes or gears it’s time you learned!
Dahon make some good single-speed folding bikes but Bromptons are higher quality and longer lasting. http://www.brompton.co.uk/
Changing gears is easy especially on a 3-speed; all you have to remember is to change gear BEFORE you need to and don’t put too much force on the pedals, you have to move the pedals to change gear but gentle pressure makes shifting gears smoother.

Best folding bike for storage in RV and use in campgrounds?
I’ve looked online at Dahon and Trek, and our local cycle shops sell both but have nothing to try out. I have a family of 4 with a petite wife and 2 BIG teenagers (210-220 lbs, large frame kids each right at 6′) All we want is something that will fold and store easily in the RV and get us around the campground.
The Dahon site has so many choices I am not even sure what to get, but looking at the new Speed D7 simple because of the low price and our moderate needs.
I haven’t ridden one, but i like the concept of the Giatex.
Technically it isn’t a folder, it’s a “stretcher”. It seems like a much simpler mechanism than a folder and it fits a wider range of body sizes. It is a multispeed and the price seems reasonable.

In case you are like a lot of Londoners, you’ll have problems finding a safe and dry place to put your bike at home. The small house refuses to budge one more inch, and also the street seems to be the place bikes get left to find new owners. It’s also possible to would like to ride to the office, but car parking is difficult to find. If you ever try to get your bike into your building, the concierge looks at your bike as if it was a giant wheeled rat and refuses to let you onto the escalator. You may also long to take your bike along on a holiday that requires transit, but can not because of rush hour restrictions or outright bans on bikes on trains or buses. The answer you are searching for might be a folding bike.
Folding bikes could be taken with you directly into your home, onto elevators, and into your workplace. This works extremely well if you also cover your bike so that nobody has the chance to register “bike” and react to it.
Folding bikes also only rarely suffer the indignity of being stolen, because typically, the bike does not leave your sight. No more of that anticipation and dread as you walk back to your street-parked bike: “Will it still be there today?” Addititionally there is no need to carry a heavy NYC-proof lock with you while riding.
Throw away your assumptions about rickety, heavy folding bikes that are really hard to fold, fall apart while you are riding, perform badly, give you a poor ride, or require a lot of pedaling. These day there are a lot of reputable makes and models to choose from that alternately optimise easy folding and folding size, performance, ride, and cost.
Typical to most of models is that the handling is a bit more responsive than on a full-size bike, and that can take some getting used to. It is not suggested that you ride a folding bike without any hands or try any cute stunts. Gears on small-wheeled foldable bikes are higher to compensate, but limited gearing on some models may slow you down. If that is a major issue for you, you might like to look more toward higher end “performance” foldable bikes. If you plan to take many trips that utilize transit, a bike that folds quickly and compactly may be best for you. In case you are a tall rider, you may want to check out how each type of folding bike can adjust to fit you.
As with any buy, consider how you plan to use the bike and try to find the one that matches your requirements best. Understand that you often get what you pay for and that a lower-quality bike may make you wish you had got a new better bike in the first place. The greater quality folding bikes may seem highly-priced, but considering that a typical non-folding bike takes up more than 20 feet square in an apartment, you will save perhaps $10,000 over ten years by being able to get a slightly smaller home. Which means you can’t afford not to get a good-quality folding bike.
Remember that folding bikes aren’t for the shy. You will be asked about your bike constantly on the streets of London, so get ready to become a spokesperson for whatever bike you choose. Folding bikes are apparently the most thrilling sight many Londoners have ever seen!

Does anyone have a Dahon folding bike for sale in the Midlands for a reasonable price.. My son desperately needs one for getting to work.
I came across a website that features the top 3 folding bike brands. Brompron folding bikes, Dahon folding bikes and Birdy Folding bikes. These are new bikes and I don’t know your budget. They also have links on the site that point to suppliers that have the best price deal available.
I personally like the Dahon Mu EX as it is definitely one of the coolest Top Folding Bikes around. It is light and folds within 15 seconds once you know how. If you have the cash I would recommend this Dahon Folding bike.
The top folding bikes usually retain their value depending on their condition so if you find one where the price looks too good to be true make sure you get a bike mechanic to check it out first.
Hope you find the Dahon for you they are great bikes.

I’m going to do a bicycle tour in Canada, at least 50km a day for 3 weeks and I need to buy a bike for this purpose.
A folding bike would be convenient as I wouldn’t have to pay the extra $20 to take it on a Greyhound bus.
It is possible to do this tour on a folder or would it be really uncomfortable/impractical?
I was looking at Strida or Dahon Cadenza or Tournado
I’m thinking about a folder as the trains and ferries are about $20 each so more than $200 in total I would save by having a folder
i would get a non folding because its probably gonna be better quality. thats alot of riding and you want a good bike, not a convient one. remember, its about the actual ride, not the time in between. plus 20 bucks isnt really that much
