Is there mandatory warranty in the UK? I bought a folding bicycle and it broke in a week and a half

I bought a Brompton at Evan’s cycles and the gear shift broke in a week and a half. The bicycle as a whole seems too fragile and it’s not performing up to par (unconfortable, slow). What does United Kingdom law say about this? I don’t have any warranty documentation (although I do have proof of purchase).

UK law requires that they follow manufacturers warranty. I believe the shifter has a 1 or 2 year warranty against defects in material and workmanship.

If you crashed or the bike fell and it broke, it is your problem not the bike and it is unlikely that they would repair it at no charge. This is no different from anyting else… if you wreck a car neither the manufacturer nor the dealer will repair it at their expense. By the way, a good mechanic can tell when a bike has crashed or how damage happened. Very few- if any- failures happen as you are “just riding along”

Regarding Brompton, thats the way they feel… although their compact folding is a great idea it simply can’t be as rideable as a normal bike. One can’t compare ANY folding bike with a normal bike… except maybe a Bike Friday.
